Hi all,
I recently upgraded my system (no upgrades since 2011 :D) so I'm now running Gigabyte x470 motherboard with latest bios, 2700 Ryzen and 16gb ddr4 3000.

I never realised I'd have to switch to windows 10 to get it up and running so had a bit of a nightmare backing stuff up etc which actuall entailed installing windows 10 on a secondary drive so I could move all the files I needed (photo's etc) from my main SSD drive, then formatting the SSD installing windows 10 and moving my files back.

Anyway, I had a problem where the boot order started to change in the bios, so my secondary drive was the one it booted from not the SSD(it swaoped the drive order in the bios?) ...so I've disabled all other drives except the ssd as a boot drive.

Anyway, it's still booting from the secondary drive now and again, even though its not selected? when this happens I reboot the computer, enter the bios, and nothing has changed, the crucial ssd is still the only boot device all other boot devices are set to disabled? Is something amiss? do I have a computer poltergeist? Do I need to call a priest?

I'm a bit baffled to be honest? I'm completely new to windows 10 so don't know if it's something windows based (don't see how this could be?) or maybe the bios has a problem due to it being a newer board?

Any pointers greatley appreciated.

I'll see if anyone can help then fire off an email to Gigabyte to see if they can shed any light.

Thanks in advance.

Just had a look at the Gigabyte site. My ssd does not seem to be supported( crucial mx100 512gb) so maybe this is the problem. I'll see what gigabyte has to say.

Have you tried formatting the drive you don't want it to boot from so it will no longer see it as a bootable drive?

My board did something similar at first - preferring to boot from the old Windows install on my SSD instead of my new one on my M.2 drive.

Don't know why it did it, but formatting the SSD and copying the files I wanted back across worked.

You wouldn't want the space on the drive wasted with all the Windows install files anyway if you're not intending to use it as a boot drive.

Yeah, think I'm going to have to do something like that, I'll have to add another drive to copy the files that are now on that drive that I need.I didn't think it would be a problem but what do I know, with all this new technomanology :D

My ax370 gaming 7 does something similar, bios forgets there is a ssd to boot from and tries the bluray drive, shuffling the ssd down the order, and then stops booting saying no system disk found. I have to go into bios and reset the order. Very occaisionally the ssd isnt even recognised in the boot list first time around! Usually takes a few reboots via bios to get it back to the ssd, which is the only storage drive in the system....
