X570 Aorus Pro PCIE Bifurcation help

Second x16 slot stealsborrows its 8 PCIe lanes from primary x16 slot, which drops to x8 mode when anything is connected to second slot.
Third x16 slot is connected through chipset and works electrically as max x4 slot.
With Zen2 CPU all work up to PCIe v4 speed.
With older CPUs they work max PCIe v3.

I am aware of the first two PCIE slots are shared on x16 lanes. I don’t have a high end GPU so I don’t need all 16 lanes to the GPU. But I would like more lanes to be allocated to nvme drives. But only be able to allot 1 drive in a x8 lane slot seems like a waste of space. Therefore wondering if the second x16 slot can be bifurcated into 2x4 therefore I can use the ASUs hyper m.2 card to get 2 drives off the slot.

Page 31 of the manual states that you can do x8 / 2x4.
Tbh that’s the bit of the manual confused me a little.
the 2x8 is that x8/x8 or first PCIEx16 split to recognise 2 devices in the same slot. And when they say x8/2x4 does that actually mean splitting the 2x4 down to the second x16 slot.
