X58 cooler on X79

Does an X58 cooler fit on a X79 board?
I'm aware of the differences in design of the fan fittings, but are the X79 screw holes the same dimensions as the X58 holes?

In general no they dont fit no but if you are contemplating using another ASUS Rampage board they come with a feature known as X socket so 1366 coolers will then fit. On X79 the holes are not actually holes they are threaded where you screw into them.

Thanks for the info, was trying to work out if my EK water block would fit, eventually found on their website that the older HF model doesn't unfortunately.
