Hey guys im stuck on whether to go for the P6T deluxe and use onboard sound or whether to go for the P6T non deluxe and use the money saved on a X-Fi soundcard?

I dont need all the features of the deluxe as im not a heavy enthusiast, so the P6T non deluxe seems like a cheaper option + im a gamer so was thinking the sound card would be a nice touch.

Although im also thinking along the lines of longevity and the deluxe version is more common in the X58 game therefore would get more feedback from customers and more BIOS updates for upcoming Westmere etc?

What ya think?

to be honest, if you're not a heavy enthusiast and you're not overclocking then why don't you buy one of the MSI or Gigabyte boards? I'm thinking of upgarding to I7 myself but for what i need either

or

would be ideal for the purposes of getting onto the I7 platform and they're £75 quid or there abouts cheaper than the P6T.

Thats true, but im looking for this build to last me forever so need reliability and Asus seems to be quite popular. Also if I wanted to overclock in the future I would have a decent overclocking board so im thinking that if I fork out more now, it will pay off in the long run.

Ive gone and ordered the P6T now anyway, unsure on onboard vs soundcard though

I just went for the standard P6T and saved over £140 over the Rampage and £60 on the deluxe models.
There all the same basic mobo - none of them overclovk any better or worse than the others.
Cue an onslaught of irate Rampage and P6T Deluxe owners!!

I just received mine today, would have thought it came with more than 6 USB ports though? For all those external devices etc

I agree with your point, however the motherboards bios has a huge say in your end oc result. The stock bios on my x58 extreme was lame at best, upgraded to the latest beta and pretty much instantly got 3.8ghz.

Yeah the beta bios, available on all models, does make a difference.
They all have the ability to clock cpu, memory and a variety of other components which is wot counts for oc'ing.
