X58-UD5 troubles

Hi all,

Following a recent custom build, my computer with all watercooling apparatus is running perfectly, except for one thing... booting!!!

The MoBo (Gigabyte X58-UD5) takes time to boot up, and after the POST screen, another black screen comes up saying 'verifying DMI pool' and gives a list of PCI devices. As Follows....

I suspected the following to be possible problems:

- The ATX 12V connection on the motherboard is 8pin however I can only connect 4 pins due to the design of the pins from my PSU. I tried converting the 24pin ATX connection to a 20pin also but still no resolve.
- I disconnected and reconnected all hardware
- Haven't got a floppy disk drive connected but I doubt this will make much difference
- get a code on the error display of the MoBo as 'FF' but the manual suggests this is a Boot Attempt and other posts suggest this is a normal message
- perhaps the CPU was a problem but the system picks it up and verifies it and I have used programs such as CPU-Z and Prime95 with these results:

no communication thread? is that a problem??

also, I have 6mb memory RAM installed, the system picks this up but says only 4mb can be used. do these figures seem normal??

any resolutions are welcome guys! need to get this boot thing faster, my main concern is the DMI pool screen with the PCI devices listing....

from pressing the power button to hearing the 'beep' for the boot...takes about 30seconds? i am mostly concerned about the Verifying DMI Pool screen tbh...

Rehost your pics because I cannot see them. I have the UD5 and I have the same message (Verifying DMI Pool), it is normal.

Sounds like one of your sticks of RAM may be faulty - hence it only recognising 4GB not 6GB - this would also go some way to explain the delay in POST. Try each stick individually to eliminate this as a cause, or to identify a culprit.

Hi,

my idea might be a bit stupid but worth trying :)

As far as i know after "Verifying DMI Pool" MB detects devices from where to boot. It might be that your boot sequence is Floppy--->HDD--->CD drive, and if you don't have Floppy in your system this can cause boot delay. The same with mine, but it takes a bit less time. As for the memory, i had the same issue, and the problem was few bent pins on my CPU socket. I was able to see 6Gb with some programs, but BIOS and few other programs was showing only 4gb. Worth checking you socket.

My UD5 was behaving quite similarly, turned out to be a dodgy socket - tested against a different 1366 mobo and all my hardware was fine.
Returned the UD5 and got my EVGA SLI LE - problems gone.

did the Boot Timer program test, not a good result i'm afraid...

does Partitioning help guys? as I haven't got a partition on the drive, its just one whole partition...

I don't have a floppy drive connected and I disabled it in the BIOS settings also. I might try your idea for the memory sticks though. on the UD5, does 'FF' in the error code display prompt normal behaviour? as my machine just stays on this message after booting up...

hmm i'm hoping its not a problem with the MoBo as I am way out of return time... :(

What issues are you having? What method are you trying?

no worries mate figured how to use @BIOS lol.. for those of you who also want to update the BIOS go to Gigabyte's website, search for your motherboard and its BIOS and look for the latest BIOS. Then go to @BIOS (will have to install this) and on the right side of the interface click 'update BIOS from file' then open the file where you downloaded the BIOS from...should work :)
