Hi,
After getting some 144hz monitors I am noticing my CPU is limiting is my frames at lower than my GPUs can achieve when at 1440p, and minorly when in surround. Most likely due to PCI-E gen 2 spec running at 8x on two of my cards along with the CPU not being up to the task.

Currently running:
SilverStone TJ-07
X5650 @ 4.2Ghz
Rampage Extreme 3
DDR3 1600 mhz 3 x 4GB
128GB Sandisk SSD
4TB WD Blue SSHD
Silverstone Strider Series 1500 Watt
3 x EVGA 980TI Superclocked
3 x Asus Swift PG279Q (1440p x 3)
Dual loop water cooling covering Mobo/CPU in one loop and GPUS in another. Two (iirc D5 pumps, Black stealth 240 rad (which I want to replace with a thicker rad), Thermochil 360 rad, EK 240 rad, I have another spare 360 rad.
USB Asus U7 Echelon soundcard
There is a possibility of sometimes needing an additional 8x PCI-E port for a capture card or something else in the future, would like the flexibility, although I have seen some MSI boards had a 1080 60p capture card on board so that could save the need for it.

I assume for this I will need a 5930k rather than a 5820k due to the PCI-E lane support.
will probably go for 32GB DDR4 so I don't have to upgrade from 16-32 at some future date.

I prefer MSI for motherboards, but am open to Asus as well - Do not want gigabyte. I do not need wireless support as the machine will always be hard wired. Dual ports that can do teaming is useful, but not totally required.
Several USB 3 ports as it will be running an occulus rift, and a few extra for running some desk hubs off etc.

Will also want full cover block for the motherboard most likely, a CPU block, and maybe some ram blocks for fancyness. Currently running EK nickel plated blocks for everything.

Budget is whatever it needs to be to get what I want, but I don't wna to be spending money for the sake of it, unless it has support for new tech that will mean I dont need to upgrade again as soon (USB 3.1 Gen 2 etc).

I am also open to moving to a new, quieter case/sound dampened with cable management and proper pump/res mounting without having to mod it etc. It will need support for at least 2 240 full thickness rads, and 1 360. preferably 2 360s and 1 240 would be good though.

PC is used mainly for gaming. Some web and photoshop work, AutoCAD, Video encoding/rendering via sony vegas and Aftereffects.

So, confirmation on needing a 5930k, which mother board/s to be looking at, What speed/cas RAM is considered worthwhile and ideas on a new case, maybe?

I got the Avexir Core series ram, looks awesome if you are interested in any of the colours, Red, white or blue looks the part, and can only image how sick it would look with 8 sticks :O OR even just 4 to be honest...
For Tri-SLI, you will need the 5930k or the 5960X, and for motherboards they have the majority of boards waterblocked so just take your pick and have a look..
Only issue I have with my Gigabyte board is i have noticed the M.2 is the 'slower' 10gbps rather than the full 32gbps, but apparently you cannot notice any difference, maybe the Gigabyte SOC X99, its orange but looks awesome?

Thanks for the confirmation stulid.
Thanks for RAM confirmation of just buying looks/cost.

Are there any particularly good boards that stand out for features/overclocking?

If I change case color scheme doesn't matter, of I don't then it needs to be red/black.

Is there any real reason to be buying the boards that are 400 instead of 300 except getting some USB 3c ports?

If I were to get something like the MSI Gaming 9 http://bit.ly/1PNzh2O

Which states:
5 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, support up to 4-way mode
- 1-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0/ x0
- 2-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x0
- 3-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x8
- 4-way mode: x8/ x8/ x0/ x16/ x8

Would it matter if I were to use slots 1-2-4 or 2-4-5 PCI-E Lanes instead of specifically how they have laid it out? I ask as I have a EK FC Triple Terminal over my GPU blocks, which means they are set up on dual slot spacing next to each other.

Also, whats the point in five slots, if only 4 can be used? Or is it simply only stating for GPU configs, and if you were to use 5 slots, then they would all run at x8?

My question, is why that board over a lot of cheaper boards...?

That board specifically for the inclusion of the on board capture card, meaning I wouldn't need a slot for it. I am still in the process of trying to confirm exactly what it supports, to see how it compares to my current one. Otherwise I will be looking at cheaper boards most likely.
