Grrrr, well i'm hacked off now.

just tried to watch a divx file, and was prompted to upgrade form v6.somthing to v7, fine i thoguth, not in any hurry.

Well the thing goes through the motions of upgradeing (this was all automated, no user input other than ok, accept EULA etc) all is well until i double click divx player and ''boink!' up pops windows error box 'missing such and such 32bit dll"

so uninstall the 'upgrade' and venture onto divx's website, where quite plainly at the bottom of the (non-auto-update) downlaod page it says vista -32bit only. Why on earth are they distributing 'upgrades' to those with 64bit OS's resulting in users losing the functionallity they had. Its not exactly secret information!

And i now cant play the file until i find another program.
And i've also lost my DivX 6 converter licence and will ahve to go about retreaving that too:mad:

And who in their right mind releases software 'upgrades' that are not 64bit compatible, when the previous version was?:rolleyes:

/Rant

now to find a divx 6 installer somewhere...
unless anyone has got any better suggestions?

Who on earth uses the official DivX release and software?

Either get a decent set of codecs, FFDShow, or just use Media Player Classic/VLC.

Agreed, I use K-Lite Codec Pack for Vista, and the Shark007 Win7 Codec pack for Windows 7

K-Lite (for 64-bit) - here
Shark007's codec pack (supports Vista + Windows 7) - here

Why are you using DIVX PLAYER? that's the built in player./ The codec itself is very good.

install the codec ONLY (custom option during install, it is there) and play the video using WMP or MPC.
