its not often I ask for help but this one is tearing my hair out...

I have an Asrock X670-E motherboard paired with a 7800X3D and its been doing fine on 32GB (2x16 dual channel) 6000Mhz CL30 etc etc, I've recently bought more memory same make/model/sku to double up to 64GB (4x16) and its giving me real head aches.

To cut a long story short with all 4 memory modules installed I can clear my CMOS setting and get it booting fine at the lazy JEDEC settings which knock it down to 4800MHz and I assume some very slack timings but these memory kits support EXPO profiles and when I select that in the BIOS with AGESA timings, competitive or aggressive (which the previous memory was fine on) I cant boot and have to reset the CMOS again.

The FSB ratio etc is all on auto...

My use case is PC VR gaming btw, that's where I need the performance.

Is my memory crap?
am I doing something wrong?
am I being unrealistic trying to get 4 x 16GB modules running at the EXPO speeds they are claiming?
does it matter if the memory settings come down and I'm being overly OCD about it?

so yes it seems even at 5200Mhz I'm actually getting above the average

This snippet seems to sum the current situation up:
"2-1R: 5200MT (2 single rank DIMMs) 2-2R: 5200MT (2 dual rank DIMMs)
4-1R :3600MT (4 single rank DIMMs) 4-2R: 3600MT (4 dual rank DIMMs)"

**** I'm gonna have to change my memory to 2 x 32 aren't I that does indeed seem to be the case... Why even bother putting 4 dimm slots on AM5 grrr

Anyway thanks for all the info I seem to have arrived at the answer, I'll be sending Corsair their memory back and selling a 32GB kit shortly

I've swapped out my Corsair Vengeance now for G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo and its doing what I want, even getting 6400CL30 on EXPO aggressive timings so I can't argue at that more capacity and faster speeds :)
