I’m thinking about updating my photo editing PC using eith a 7950x, or the soon to be released 9950x. I’ve been looking at suitable cases and motherboards and I’m not seeing any with a front panel USB4 port.

There is a silly expensive Asus case at £400 which has a front panel USB4 port, but I’m not finding anything else, and no motherboards. Crawling under my desk to plug in a USB4 card reader to a rear gets less appealing as I older

Maybe I should wait until the X870 boards are released to see what is announced?

Could you buy a board like the B650E Taichi or X670E Creator and then run an extension cable from the rear I/O to the front?

Afaik, X870 with wider support for USB4 isn't coming to September.

Thanks, I did think of that or a USB4 hub, but hubs are coming in at about £100. I was hoping to have less clutter on my desk (limited space) and I’d need a blob of blue tac or something to save a longer cable from always falling down the back of the desk. My desktop sits on the floor and I have an A3 printer and monitor taking up every mm of desk width and without moving house there’s no option for a bigger desk.

I think I’ll wait to see what the new motherboards bring to the party in September, especially ones with a 10G Ethernet port.
