Im now ready to buy and build my new computer (at last!)

Just pondering over which CPU to go for,
Below is a list of all the seperate programs i will be running at the same time:

1 - Flight Simulator X (or 2004)
2 - Photoreal Scenery add-on/expansion
3 - Realistic aircraft add-on/expansion
4 - Active Sky Weather Generator
5 - Squawkbox 3 (Program for connecting the game to a online network and typing messages)
6 - ServerInfo (Map of all online aircraft and air traffic control)
7 - Creative Media Player for music
8 - MSN Messenger
9 - Firefox
10 - Photoshop for taking screenshots and editing whilst im running flight simulator.

So, im thinking quad...?

I would go for the X6800, uses less power, generates less heat, and as you don't do 3d rendering you won't use all 4 cores anyway.

The only gamble would be if games in the next 2 / 3 years use more than 2 cores, but as multi threading is a tricky business I wouldn't expect that will happen to be honest, plus they need to write games for the masses, so it would be suicide to make a game that wouldn't run well on 1 core never mind 4 :)
