Looking to sell my x6800 and get a E6300 until quad core come`s out, will this cpu clocked be ok to run my game`s.

Thank`s :)

if you clock it to 2.93ghz, (IE exactly the same as your stock X6800) there will only be a minute difference in games compared to your current X6800, the down-size in cache will have a tiiiiny impact but you will not be able to tell

TBH an old single core overclocked A64 will run all those games nicely with that graphics card, even if you left the e6300 at stock it would still fly through them all, nevermind once its overclocked

why not just underclock on your x6800 to 6300 speeds and you can find out just how well it performs (admit the extra cache might make some difference but not much) Though it will be perfectly fine to run them

dude I have recently done the exact same thing and when you do you'll wonder why you ever even brought the X6800, when I first put the E6300 in I left it running @ stock with my 8800GTX and it ran every game like a dream, I'm now running the E6300 @ 2.6 (I know it can get more) and at this speed in games I really really can't tell the difference, I'm am now having secound thoughts about even getting a quad core, now thinking why not wait until the budget quads come out and clock them right up also :D

Mate an E6300 clocked to 2.93Ghz will even outperform the X6800 in some benchmarks due to high FSB / RAM frequency, despite having half the size of L2 cache.

S0 true.

saj the current c2d's (other than the x6800) are locked multipliers also! but on another note you must have seen how the 6300's are clocking soo to be honest this is a waste of time as 2.93ghz is more likely than not just a laugh to get to! i have my 6400 at 3.2ghz on stock volts and still the only thing that's limiting me is my ram!

Just seen your post. See you've had quite a few replies, but thought you might also like to check this link http://www.custompc.co.uk/custompc/reviews/96672/intel-core-2-duo-e6300.html for review and test details for the E6300.
I'm at the point myself of deciding whether to go for the E6300 or pay the extra for the E6400.

All the best :)
