Right guys before l install my Watercool Heatkiller CPU Rev3.0 1366 / 2011 - Black Nickel Block, because of the way the Asus x79 Dlx Cpu Socket is built onto the mobo, l do not need a Backplate is this correct?

Cheers,
Oldphart.

If its anything like my x79 rog then you dont need one. The pillars screw directly into the mobo. Afaik no 2011 sockets need backplates.

You were right to ask as some motherboard blocks require a backplate which comes with a block, some require that you use none for good contact and others require you use the original stock ones.

Removing motherboard heatsinks are my single most hated thing about PC building. I seem to get only the most difficult to remove ones, how was yours?

Heh this threw me for a few seconds with my first experience of X79 - I really like the way they have the reinforced socket without the need for a backplate though.

Agreed took me a while to work it out haha. Thought my kit was incomplete :(

Must admit it did seem a lot sturdier than my old 790xt board.

+1, make's installing a doddle now, not like a X58.

Used a Watercool Block again as the one on my X58 performs very well.:)
