i have 8x4gb gskill ram, asrock x79 extreme9 and 3930k and with all slots filled it will not post. the error shown is b7.

i've tested different combinations of ram and it works with a1, a1,a2, a1,a2,c1,c2 and a1,a2,c1,c2,d1,d2 but will not work with anything in b1 or b2. (so single channel, double channel and triple channel but not quad)

i've also tried different combinations of ram to rule out a bad stick too but still no post with anything in b1 or b2.

so, if the ram is ok what is more likely to be at fault? the mb or imc? i have reseated the cpu in case that was at fault.

is an upgrade to x99 a better option?

i don't have spare parts so have to spend money to diagnose the problem and don't want to risk that costing almost as much as new x99.

Could try a friends ram see if all your Rama damaged which I very much doubt and upgrading to x99 and replacing all the ram is very expensive ddr4 at the moment isn't worth the price for performance in my eyes

Possibly add a touch more voltage to the IMC or the chipset. I am not an expert in this range of boards, but it may be an area to research.
