so Currently I have the CPU in my sig i7 920@4

I understand Q3 2013 ivy-e is supposed to be out.

so would you get a 3930k now? or just wait for ivy-e see what it's like.

I feel there's nothing wrong with my i7 works fine, however I feel like a change since its nearly 4 years old.

I use my pc mainly for bf3

That processor is still capable even today, I would wait for IB-E and get the 3930k then as prices will drop.

Prices don't generally drop, if anything the prices will go up as stock becomes less available.

It's not really worth upgrading from an i7 920 at 4.0Ghz, the gains will be minimal compared to the cost of the upgrade.

hmmm yea I know :( - guess I'll just sit tight & not throw money down the drain.

I use both X58 and X79 and for gaming it is hard to tell the difference.

Unless you have got something that needs the extra number crunching that an i7 3930k gives you would be best to keep your X58 system.

I would not count on the 3930k being discounted any time soon, the reason they are popular is that they can reach speeds around 5ghz when oced and give performance that will put Haswell to shame when it launches.

thanks.

I didn't think there'd be too much difference.

I guess I'm trying to convince myself to buy new pc parts.

do it you know you want to, i did the same upgrade, there is a difference because it will o/c more but for games it wont be massive, i do a lot of photo shop work and encoding so the difference is night and day for me, massive difference.

I also have a killer itch to upgrade my 920, but I think haswell is close enough now for it to be worth waiting. And its not like the 920 is useless, its still a pretty strong cpu for gaming.

Wait till Haswel is out and decide then! ;)

Pretty much what ive told myself also , this x58 system is the longest ive ever kept a mobo and cpu (almost 4 years) was expensive in comparison to other cpus/mobos at the time but has turned out to be a better investment in the long run in my eyes :)
