I read all the preview info from Computex in May for the upcoming mobos and processors , but i was just wondering did anyone see a launch date from any of the OEMs for the motherboards and of course the CPU's they'll house ?

Here is a linky to TPU about the gigabyte board i <3 .... :)

No date as such, it's too early for that, but last I heard was with the Sandy Bridge Enthusiast processors in Q4 2011. I'd expect that it could easily slip to Q1/Q2 2012.

Not heard anything about release date, however some googling reveals;

CPU's based on 22nm with Tri-Gate "3D" transistor tech
PCI-Express 3.0 support rumoured

Hopefully will include at least DDR3 tri channel as well, something thats missing on 1155 platform :(

Not sure whether current cpu coolers will be compatible either :(

Yep, intel have skipped 28nm (unlike AMD with BD) and are going to 22nm for the new processors.

PCI-E 3.0 standard is confirmed for Ivy Bridge I believe, and if my memory serves me correctly, the ASRock X79 board spotted at Computex reads 'PCI Express 3.0' below the slot, so I'm going to say they will!

They're utilising quad channel DDR3.

Looks like the high end cooler manufacturers are releasing mounting brackets for LGA2011. Noctua were showing that off at Computex, and I'd expect others to follow suit, but only for the high end manufacturers. Also, RAM clearance may be something to bear in mind with DIMMs either side of the CPU socket!

afaik its not tri channel but a quad channel controller, with fall back to dual, tri , single, so each mem clock cycle will now be 1/4 of the effective clock

Heard simliar release dates of september/october time. Tri channal didn't show any benefits so I will be suprised to see quad being any good. I also do not see why we are moving onto PCI-E 3.0. As far as I am aware, we haven't even made full use of PCI-E 2.0 bandwidth and motherboards are struggling to get 2x 16x lanes.

PCI-E 3 will provide more current through the slot, also upgrading the standard before it requires it is always a good move IMO.

Can't wait to see the prices of these things; I'm thinking £250/£300 for the cheapest mobo and £500 for the cheapest cpu on launch.

It should be pretty like for like with current 1366 products so I will go for £200-£250 for the entry part with perhaps £400-£500 for the mid part and then the top extreme part at £750-£800, all exchange rate dependant. Boards from around £150 upwards.

Would be nice too see them come September/October, they look quite good and are getting it right from beginning, more usb 3.0 ports, pciexpress 3.0 slots and all sata 6 ports and 10 satas as well.... pricing will be extreme id imagine!

Would be nice too see some micro/itx boards if possible lol
