Hi, I can't find much info on the upcoming X79 chipset motherboards, so I thought I'd ask here!

1) Are all the boards socket 2011 - and if so what CPUs do they take (I read on here that they might also take 1366). Can you put a 2500k or 2600k in?

2) Do they need 1.35v RAM - I've got 3x2GB 1.65v left from my X58 build - not sure if this is any use or if I should grab that low voltage Corsair stuff on special offer!

...actually I thought I had more question than this when I started this thread but that's all I can think of right now! Thanks.

1)You will only be able to use 2011 CPUs, nothing that is out currently will fit only the upcoming Sandybridge-E Core i7 3xxx chips
2)You should be able to use 1.65v ram no problem

Thanks nightmare. Now that we have answers over Bulldozer, I am planing my next upgrade. I'll definitely wait for i7-3820 pricing info before making any decisions.

Expect it to be quite expensive, and also take in to account that the early revision is likely to have a major problem with virtualization features.

You also need quad channel memory - get one more stick or a new set.

Ah yeah, I did read something about that. It won't affect what I'd use it for I don't think.

I saw here that the 4 core should be under $300 and 6 core under $600
