I have sold my system with the plan of going x79, but i just want to be 100% thats the right option.
The cost of both will be the same so the only question is
X79 mobo £100, i7 4820K £150
Z97 mobo £90, i5 4690K £180

Will be used for gaming what is the best option

I would vote for the Z97 personally. As the X79 is 3 and a half years old now.
And the Z97 will get broadwell so its a little more futureproofed than aged high-end

i dont think you right. x79 as more memory bandwidth with it been quad channel. The i7 4820K is better than the i5 4690K and cheaper £150 vs £189 both OcUK prices. if broadwell is a 5-10% upgrade the 4820K should still be up there with it.

and none of them are future proofed as DDR4 is the future. with the way things are going it will be sooner then we know too.

Why would you have the idea of going for x79 when you have the successor which is x99 if you need memory bandwidth with it been quad channel? Might aswell pay extra for newer tech.

But going z97 is the best option when used for gaming only, going for an X series for gaming only is a waste. If you were doing other stuff such as 3D modeling or virtualization then the X platform would be the better option.

But how dose the i5 1150 compair to the i7 2011 as there the same price
Forget the socket and whats to come.

Also x79 as 2 x 16x for my 290x's

But it costs less so for get what the prices are. In the here and now what chip is best out of tbe two.
