X79 RAM Clearance Question!

Could anyone confirm if either of these 2 coolers (with x2 120mm fans attached) would provide enough clearance for Corsair Dominator Platinum ram please...??

I have x4 sticks on an Asus X79 Sabertooth so the 1st 2 ram slots either side of the CPU are unoccupied providing a bit more room.

I currently have the SS TD02 which is great but just fancy a different look for the next re build. As well as being the most likely Air cooler contenders to fit, they also come in red which fits with the build theme.... So if anyone could offer some advice it would be very much appreciated

Phanteks PH-TC12DX &
Prolimatech Megahalems.

cheers

The Phanteks is a good cooler but gets loud when stressed. I just changed one out for a Noctua NH-U14S, which is a better cooler and is silent even when running at full speed. It is also guaranteed to fit all 2011 motherboards without affecting RAM slots. I checked the Noctua product page and it gives the NH-U14S a green tick for compatibility with the Sabertooth. With these 140mm+ wide coolers, they can sometimes impede the use of the top PCIe slot but as there are no notes in this instance I'm presuming there are no problems. Best to go to the Noctua website and check, there are compatibility charts for each cooler with all the main motherboards. The Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power looks good too and is considerably cheaper if you can find it.

++ to what rids57 said.

regarding the noctua u14s, I can tell you as I have the same board as you, the noctua does not interfere with ram no matter the height.

if you choose the u14s, you will notice that the noctua cooler with the second fan and the fat rubber mounts will touch and ever so slightly push on the side of your stick of ram. if that bothers you you can opt not to use the thick rubber mounts, noctua suggests the thick mounts to maintain acoustic performance.

since you have the saber and as do i, the u14s does not interfere with pcie 1 at all. youre good to go.

Thank you both for the advice, much appreciated.

Shame that the Noctua doesn't come in alternative colours but I'd rather the piece of mind that it will fit and will perform well. So will look into the Noctua and x2 red themed 140's in that case...

Yep, people always are sad by the colors, but once you have them you accept them and grow to love them.

i think their colors are marketing genius, because when you look at some ones cooler or case and you see those browns and tans you know exactly what it is.

Buit like you i like a theme in my rig, as my fans dye out i will replace them with noctuas and will put in the alchemy or another good led strips to highlight my case guts.

Thanks for the input guys. After reading a few reviews, I've ended up going with stulids suggestion. Everything is being moved from a Corsair 540 back to my Lian Li X900R so will post some pics when it's done!

Cheers

Please do. i love seeing a build come together.
