Whats the fastest anyones got a x800 gto2? Mines currently at 525/600 with a artic cooling ati silencer 5.

Can I get it much faster, or shall I hold on and try not to melt it???

Cheers

I can't remember exact clocks as I don't have the card anymore but I was roughly around 645/1280 when I had my old GTO2 (unlocked).

Scored 7626 on 3DMark05 which wasn't bad at all.

I know phrozin on Guru3d had one clocked right up over 730 on the core and 1300ish on the memory with volt mods. He was skimming 9k on 05.

EDIT: Mine was a R480 core model (So basically a X850XT PE in drag)

A blatant copy and paste from here : -

Number 68.

phrozin - 8869.00 - Radeon X800 GTO2 @ 756/1296mhz - ATI x800gto2 @16p @ 756/1296 | A64 FX-57 @ 3425 MHZ VAPO LS

Bear in mind my clocks were on stock cooling and stock volts that gives you a sort of benchmark.

I think you should be able to do 600/600 on your card as long as its the R480 core (RED PCB model)

Red pcb is a go!!!

I searched high and low to get a red pcb.

I ordered it just as the blues were making an appearence on the market and spent ages on the phone trying to confirm what I had actually ordered (their photo was for illustration purposes only).

Is it fair to say that for the price it could be the best card on the market?

It is a very good card! Glad to hear you have a RED PCB model. As far I can tell these are the R480 core models. Just take it slow with the clocks (I found using ATI tool was the best way of overclocking the card as I could monitor whether it was artifacting or not within the program) Only increase say 10mhz at a time and then benchmark then repeat. If it starts artifacting back off the clocks.

Also max out your fan before you start doing anything. This will help keep the card cool and in some cases can give you a bit of extra headroom for the clocks.

:)

Fan at max - what next?

How long would you benchmark it for? And do you mean with 3dmark or something similar or just run the ati tool cube for an hour or so?

nooooooooooooooo for most GTO2`s if you do that to them you will kill them. im the biggest fan of the GTO2`s going so trust me on this ;)

the average clock was 530 / 580 (around X850XT speeds). with that youd expect to get about 6000 to 6400 3d05 marks depending on your CPU.

p.s. , if your GPU isnt already unlocked, please use my mod in the sticky at the top of the graphics card forum. all overclocking is done by yourself after modification.

from the afforementioned sticky:

I managed 6,775 in 3Dmark05 with 16 pipelines, core 564mhz, memmory 609mhz, i set dynamic fan speeds but temperature never exceeds 55C (80% fan) even after several hours on call of duty 2.

For some reason the fan speed on my card didnt increase proportionally to temperature when i let the card take care of the fan speed which restricted my clocking. But with dynamic fan speeds its fine.

my spec:
- AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA4000BNBOX) (CP-120-AM)
- Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-111-AS)
- Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS)
- Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO² 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-101-SP)
- Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 320GB 3200JD SATA 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-045-WD)

thats what i got with mine... used locutus12's file to unlock to 16 pipelines. good stuff... have a 7900gtx now though.

why? most of the gto2's used speed binned r480's - cores which dont clock as well as the x850xt/pe's.

Thats news to me, I was under the impression they were just using up the last of the R480 cores.

Seems strange that mine and another 3 or so people off of guru3d were able to push the cards well past 600 on the core.

Luck of the draw I suppose.

All i ever get is 530/600 rock stable, although it did shock me once on ATI tool and go 625/650 without artifacting, then PC locked up and it went back to maxing out at 530/600. That was a wierd moment!!
