Mornin' all,
Been looking through the boards for a bit trying to see if I could find anyone with similar problems, but seeing as how I'm drawing a blank pretty much everywhere I thought I'd post something and see if any of the resident geniuses can help.
Right, I've just recently put together some bits in a case, I have a 2800+ sempron, k8n4e asus mb, 1gig crappy generic pc3200 ram, an x800 gto (powercolor), and probably a fairly naff 400w (or 450w) psu.
OK so i set everything up, all well and good and everything's working but sadly i can't help fiddling around with things that work perfectly well. So, trying to overclock my x800 and i can't quite believe how much this card sucks for overclocking. I mean I'm having difficulty gettin it to run just slightly above stock speeds. From 400/490 I got it to work at 420/510 quite happily but I've been seeing people on other sites and that saying they can clock it a lot higher with minimum fuss......... My main problem is that when clocked just a little above these (420/510) my monitor'll switch itself off after about 5-10mins as if it's not getting a signal from the card.......Anyone any idea why? I really want to play CoH at better settings (and maybe break the 10k 3dmark03 barrier, or is that just unrealistic?).......... Cheers gang

You could try fitting an Arctic Cooling Silencer or Zalman heatsink as most o/c problems are down to overheating. I've seen the tiny heatsinks on the GTO's and a third party one would give you more scope and be quieter.

i dont think it would be heat not at that subtle overclock, i stand to be corrected though.
if you go for a arctc silencer be sure to get the rev2 version as it fits a lot better.
i think the problem youre having is the power supply to be fair, as i had a x800xt year ago or so and i had a crap generic 450w psu and the card would not work to its full potential and would cause stuttering and slow downs when games were played etc. i got a decent branded psu and everything was A1.
have you got the motherboard drivers installed aswell?

yeah, i'm fairly sure i got all the drivers for the motherboard installed properly. I was thinking it was probably the psu ( it did only cost me about £13, what can i say? I'm a cheapskate), but no real way of knowing. Anyone know any decent psu's that won't break the bank?

Hey again the Akasa Paxpower 400w is £39.99, I've got the 460w with an x800xt, overclocked 3.6 P4, 2 optical drives & 2 hard disks no problems. Custom PC did a test on psu's a while back, take a look at their labs section at www.custompc.co.uk. Good luck

probably just the card can't hack it. i have a gecube x800gto and it won't clock past 420 either. i'm using ati tool to detect artifacts and it craps out at about 422. it's just the limit of the gpu core.... :)
