x800 radeon upgrade (HELP!)

Im using a x800 radeon(agp) card at the mo and REALLY need to upgrade..

Can anyone tell me what i can get for £80-£110 AGP ONLY..?

i TRIED to run splinter cell-double agent- and it says that i dont have shader 3.0 (mine is 2.0)

I hear the ATI Radeon X1650 Pro ICEQ 512MB is pretty good?(£105 priced here atocuk)

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Im still using my X800 Pro =D Slightly oc'd though The card runs games pretty well tbh though Id say wait till second wave dx10 cards come out

Depending on the X800 model you have (i.e. SE, XT, Pro etc) then the X1650 Pro won't be much improvement at all. It does have SM 3.0 though which the X800 (as you found out) doesn't.

Again depending on the X800 model (and the rest of your system) I don't think you'll find anything for your budget that is a noticable ugrade.

If you could squeeze in a 7600 GT then it does have decent performance (prolly greater than what you have now) but it is still really a midrange card in comparison to a (previously) high end one and you'd need something like the Gainward 7900 GT lookalikee or the X1950 Pro to really get significant gains (both of which are double your budget on AGP).

Does the lack of SM3 actually stop you playing this game? Otherwise your not exactly missing out on much if its just a warning, but runs it anyway.

If you just wanted SM3.0 then you could just go for the newer cards (7600 GT / X1650) just don't expect new steller frame rates. If you sold your X800 then you might offset some of the cost of a X1950Pro, but it would still be pricey...

If you have an XT or XL I would'nt bother, save up like mad and see if you can stretch to the Nvidia 7900 range. X1650 pro aint going to give you any performance increase at all. Maybe even worse on some games, depends on which x800 you've got.

Yes it does, only the Nvidia 6 series and up, and also the ATi x1k range can run it, any card below Nvidia 6 series, and ATi's x8 series and below can not run it at all, its SM3.0 CARD ONLY, why on earth they did that i do not know.

EDIT: Interesting review here of the x1650pro, its about on par with/and in some cases slightly faster than the 7600 GS.

I am an old OCUK user but its been so long since i logged on everythign has changed.. Hence the new name...

Just to note how long ago it was i USED to clock my 300a chip to 450mhz
