You would need a HD2900XT or a 8800nvidia card to even begine to play HDTV on a 26" with reasonable FPS :)

DVD/MPEG2 movies will be fine. Gaming will be ok with older games as the screen is only probably 1360x768.

it's a 26" so what..720p/768p? (1280x720 or 1366x768)

frankly it shouldnt have many problems unless he is looking to max everything out. Your statement quite honestly is rubbish.

Errrr, no? The onboard 6100 in my HTPC is doing a fine job of running even 1080p video at the moment because I "borrowed" the graphics card out of it. The most basic GPU will do the job of running HD video, it's CPU power you need.

cpu shouldn't be to bad opty 146 @2.5 on dfi ultra d
just a slowish graphics card
Seriously I think you will be absolutely fine.

I'd be shocked if that machine can't play HD video, it honestly doesn't take a lot.

x800gt will be fine running 1360x768, i got a 7600gs doing good work at that rez and most games i have on it run with full details.

only thing is you may need to run powerstrip to be able to set that custom resolution to work.

My boy uses x800gt, it is a great little card he plays @ 1440x900 medium detail. It always impresses me how well everything runs. It doesn't like AA very much though.
He used to run 2 screens on it too. 1x 1280x1024 crt 1x 1024x768 lcd, worked really well.
His one is the 8 pipe r420 core with 256bit gddr3, it has been clocked using riva tuner to 500/1000 since the day I brought it for him (18 months+).
