hey guys!

Recently brought 2GB of geil value pc3200 ram from overclockers. I then brought a new hard drive aswell (hitatchi deskstar 160gb). Any game i play and on any graphical setting i select my game is unplayable. Ive tried Supreme commander, Battlefield 2 and HL2 and the first few minutes of the game is fine. However once your 10-15 mins in the screen keeps going black then flashing back to the game then to black like a bloody strobe.

Really annoying me as my games are unplayabe. The game itself doesnt stop, the sound is still there and you can hear yourself walking in BF2 and HL2 its jsut the screen keeps spazzing out. Ive tried all ATI drivers ranging from 6.12 to 7.2's, original catalysts and omegas. Still the same problem. Im at wits end!!!

Im thinking maybe a heat issue? My case is well ventilated though.

any ideas?

P.S i changed my ram timings from 2.5-3-3-7 to 3-3-3-7 and now my games play normally for a few mintues longer but it still plays up. All my settings in BIOS are set to AUTO.

What PSU do you have?

Have you tried running memtest (at the memorys recommended timings and voltages)?

Have you tried the card in another PC?

Get some monitoring software to view the temps. I'm not sure exactly which does it... does ATI Tool tell you temps? I dunno. But see what kind of temps you're getting.

PSU is a Jeantech peak 400w. Not the greatest i know but it did me fine up until i got 2GB of ram so i dont think its that.

I used temp monitor on ATI tools and the highest it went was 84c. I even tried ajusting the settings so the fan was at 100% speed but it didnt help any.

Ill run a memtest now. Because i have 2 sticks running in dual channel what amount should i type in when it asks me for the amount of ram to test?

thanks :)

ive got memtest as a iso in alcohol 120% and i have 2 files, one says BOOT and the other MemTest.IMG.

what do i do with these?

You have to burn it to CD, it's a bootable CD ;)

In BIOS set your computer to boot off CD, make sure the CD is inserted, then Memtest will run

This is for Nero7.

After you select Burn Image then scroll through till you find the BOOT file for Memtest and then select ok. All you need now is to burn the disc ;). If your using Alcohol 120% then just look for burn image.

People usually let memtest run right through but I personally use 10 passes of test 5 then ten passes of test 8 as these stress the most from what I was led to believe. It has found errors for me when I've been overclocking to let me know my boundaries so it works for me.

Well ive just fixed it :D :D :D Turned out to be the power supply was really struggling to power my pc. So i unplugged one hard drive and 2 case fans which dont do anything anyway. All is well once again, new psu time me thinks.

Nice one and sore one at the same time. Great you've diagnosed the problem though. Now for the cash repair hehe.
