Ive got this card left over from my desktop which has recently stopped working... is it worth patching the system up and basing it around this card or is it pretty dated now?

The card was a beast in its day but is lower-mid range now. It depends what games you want to play. It'll run older stuff extremely well, but will struggle on new games.

Cheers for the advice, ill probably keep hold of it for a while as i tend to play older games at the moment. Thanks again

Older games will run fine on new graphics cards.

They may well do but seeing as he's happy to play older games that don't need all the horse power of newer graphics cards then the x800xt would do a fine job

*had an x800xtpe myself before this x1900 and it was brilliant for its time - shame about the lack of sm3.0 tho :(

I rekon the X800 would start to slow down very badly if it had SM3.0, like a game such as TDU, enable HDR in that if an X800 could and it would be unplayable.

True, it can do do a 'fake' kinda of HDR (bloom iirc) as I remember it in HL2 ... it didn't affect performance much if at all but yea full sm 3.0 like the 6*** > series nVidia cards would start to kill it !

I got a 6800U because of the well documented stock shortages of the early X800XT PE and SM3 has given exactly zero benefit to my ownership of the card as far as I can tell.

It's a very over rated addition to the card indeed - the only game to date which requires it is Splinter Cell : Double Agent and even then that game was awfully ported :o

Dont forget Rainbow Six Vegas :p
