Pretty much the title really. From an X800XT what would be the best upgrade for around 150 or so?

I am guessing the X1950 Pro? is the 7900GS as good or is it far worse? I got out of the PC market for 6 months and everything has changed (as per normal).

I am really toying with just getting an AGP X1950 Pro, and then upgrading the rest of my rig in a few weeks (I am getting the asrock Conroe M/B either way, so AGP in theory wouldnt be a problem) and getting an Conroe E6400.

I run a 20" monitor BTW...

Definitely go for the X1950Pro, amazing bang for buck and will blow you away with the performance increase over the X800XT.

Without you commiting yourself, how much of an increase would I see roughly? about twice the speed maybe?

Lastly, since I mentioned that I will be grabbing an AGP conroe board, is it worth just grabbing an AGP X1950 ?

*EDIT*

Or is it worth waiting and grabbing the X1950XT on PCIE? I notice its only around 30 more?

Be more than double, i went form an x800 XT PE to the x1800 XT, and the performance increase is just staggering, you'll be totally blown away, absolutely huge, huge increase. :)

x1950 pro is the only choice at that price, absolutely stonking card, but if your thinking of the x1950 XT then go for that, as thats a cracker to.

I went from (basically) an X850XTPE to an X1800XT and was utterly blown away. The increase in shader power was really immense, not to mention general framerate and image quality, and that was a smaller step up than an X800XT to an X1950Pro.

If the X1950XT is only working out at £30 more then I would advise going for that.

I suppose that adding SM3 will really help games look "purty" too. I must admit, I was surprised by trying out Neverwinter Nights 2 today, running at 1366x768 with most options turned on max (apart from shadows) seemed very smooth on my X800XT @ 535/535.

I must admit though, there is a demon in my head that is telling me "save up and grab an 8800GTS"... or I could live with only 1GB of ram for a couple of weeks then add the 2 gigs of DDR2 to replace the 1 GB of DDR1 :/
