X850 XT vs Pro?

hi guys,

i'm looking to get an ATi X850 for my shuttle, just bumping up the spec of my backup setup really...

basically i would like to know if it is really worth looking for an XT over the Pro? is there much real world difference?

As far as I remember the Pro came with less pipes enabled, 12 to the Xt's 16 and (possibly) slightly lower clocks, and a one slot cooler.

Many of them were able to be flashed to get the extra pipes working and bringing it up to near XT speeds.

Real world, probably a few fps difference in older games I'd say.

whoa thats really important (the one slot cooler thing) cuz its a shuttle, which one is one slot? the Pro i assume?

Yeah, the 850XT came with that two slot hairdryer thing.

The Pro, (at least the Sapphire one I fitted for a mate) was one slot.

Actually an X800XT is one slot, 16 pipes and faster than the 850 Pro, so you could go for one of those instead.

Why dont you go for a more recent card if you are buying?

HD3650 series is a good candidate, and so is 8600GT

if the X800 XT is the better card (than the X850 Pro) then i think thats the way to go... so i'll be on the lookout

20 quid doesn't seem realistic for ~20 quid... if i stretch to 30-40ish which seems to be a sensible amount for an X800 XT PE, am i still getting value for money or should i up my card expectations for that kinda cash?

Bare in mind the x800 cards don't have SM3 support, so newer games such as Bioshock wont work.
