Doing a small upgrade on my aging machinge (cpu+motherboard+graphics) , how ever I can't decide which card to go with. I can only spend roughly £150 on the card.

I've looked at a few benchmarks and both seem pretty even , but the 7600GT is newer and supports newer stuff (SM 3.0) but is only 128bit.
So now I read that it suffers at higher resolutions and with AA+AF because of it :( , so the X850XT is better  .

At the moment I'm leaning towards the 7600GT as I can get another at a later date when it starts to struggle and they are cheap and use sli , but I'm still not sure :(.

Going from a 9800pro so either will be an improvment and prob only gonna run 1024x768 or 1280x960 depending on game.

So 7600 or x850xt

Thanks :).

Just did a similar 'upgrade' myself from an X800XTPE though. Performance is pretty much on par but having SM3 support in new games is a must.

I'd go with the 7600GT. Nice low power consumption and less heat thrown out into the case being two good advantages, plus smaller card for fitting in any cases! Performance is too similar, so the other advantages of the 7600GT make me lean that way.

does anybody have any x850xt, 7600gt, 7600gs 3dmark05 scores?

more interested in the 7600gs vs 7600gt comparisons.

my 7600GT scores 7202 in '05 at 650/1700, after my cooler mod and pencil mod its now at 670/1740.

too many people care too much about 3D mark scores, who cares what a card 'scores' in a synthetic benchmark, its real world performance that it comes down too, and i would say 7600GT offers better performance (not benchmark) than the X850, the X850 is so outdated as well when the 7600 uses all the new technology of the 7 series GPU

tbh they're really evenly matched, both have there pro's and con's

If you get a SLi motherboard then you have later option of boosting speed.

If you just intend running one card then I'd choose which ever brand you prefer, personally I prefer ATI's as I have more luck with there drivers and I like ATI Tool :p

the 7600gt is fast, quiet and draws less power. It also supports sm3 and is virtually identical in price so its no question.

get the 7600gt.

Go for the 7600GT

Virtually identical in performance but the 7600GT is a current gen card with support for newer features (such as SM3)

The 7600GS is like a 6600GT
