I'm looking to replace my Rampage IV Extreme with a m-atx board, to downsize from my CM HAF X 16KG lump to a nice Corsair Air 240 4kg shoebox.

Currently, I have a 3930K on my X79 RIVE, but looking at Rampage IV Gene's on ebay, there's only one for sale in the states for about £230 + VAT and import duty when it lands here, which is just completely unjustifiable for 5 year old tech.

So, can I get a shiny new m-atx X99 board and keep my 3930K and DDR3? Or will I need a whole new board/CPU/RAM combo?

I looked at Skylake etc, but while single core perf is improved, I can't see any reason to spend money to downgrade, or at best sidegrade, from my 6 core to a 4 core, purely for a smaller case.

Any ideas?

Could just get a smaller e-atx case?

That's quite an oxymoron... do they come in a nice vibrant grey?

I have no optical drives, like most people who have fibre internet, so I'm looking for a case that plays to that advantage. Hence the Air 240 with a front mounted all-in-one. Not just drive bays converted to take a radiator, which end up looking exactly what they are.

I did like the look of the Manta, but until they answer the calls of a M-ATX version, it's too big (bigger than the air 240) to limit me to a single GPU.

The Air 540 is just far too huge, deep specifically, and my knee would find it unavoidable :(
