x99 board choice

Hi all,

Looking for some advice on a decent x99 motherboard for a build over the xmas period

Been looking at various options and still none the wiser as to what I should go for.

Essentially I want a reliable ATX board that will give me the ability to hit a decent overclock on a 5820k (silicon lottery aside).

It’ll be my first time water cooling and the plan is to use my current gpu and upgrade next year when something new comes along, but I can’t see me ever going multi card and having just brought a pair of 850 evo ssd’s recently won’t be looking to use an m2 drive.

Boards that I’ve seen rated highly have all seemed to be E-ATX (SOC Champion etc) which won’t fit in the case that I brought in the black Friday sales, there also seems to be a lot of boards out of stock at ocuk and to compound the issue I keep coming across reports on other forums regarding ASUS boards having issues and killing chips ?!

Current board that caught my eye is the MSI Krait edition, purely as it was black and white (as you can see I’m a pro when it’s comes to assessing the relative merits of hardware :D)

Opinions on the above board and any other for that matter would be warmly received

Personally, I grabbed the 5820k and X99-SLI bundle, havent gotten it yet as it is a present but after reading literally EVERYWHERE it seems like a solid board, and they are all enthusiast line boards, and all sport similar features, but the X99 SOC Champion has only 4 ram slots, this was done to get better overclocks. If you really want to overclock, and under water, this is your board as you can get the chipset blocks too!

Look up JayzTwoCents on youtube, he is currently doing a watercooled build on this board, and he is a MASSIVE watercooling enthusiast and you will learn a lot from him.

yeah the gigabyte sli was the other board that I was considering as it seems well received and at a decent price

the soc champion would have been 1st choice but being EATX wont fit in my new enthoo evolve atx that I impulse brought in the sales
 
the GA-SLI is a solid board but just a heads up if you are going to install a m.2 ssd drive on it it only has 10gb/s speed...the new samsung drives run at x4 or 32gb speeds. I am swapping mine soon for an asus or msi board to get the extra speed with the m.2 slot. If your not bothered about that then the Ga-sli is a good board.
 
Ended up going with the Msi krait after I got it into my head I wanted a black and white build so hopefully ive made the right choice

Placed orders yesterday for all the parts so once delivered I'll hopefully start pulling it all together at the end week

Champion is 20gb/s speed
 
Pretty much any of them will work just as well, I have a non OC socket board at my overclock is huge, I have overclocked plenty of 5820s also on non OC socket boards, so choose any.
