x99 check

I'd probably go for an 240 rad AIO cooler. If you put a hefty overclock on that hex core it could be sucking up to 200W, and AIOs are better at moving the heat out side of the case if you have room at the top of your case.

i have a antec gamer 750w and a 970 thats fine isnt it ?

The 750W PSU should be fine for the CPU and a 970 (Should be OK for 970 SLI), It's the CPU cooler I think you should re-think. An All In One water cooler is easier to live with IMO than a traditional CPU heat sink and fan, and can lead to a quieter and better cooled system.

Antec h1200 aio i am considering. but only reviews i find of it is the older revision.

also whats the thing with if it leaks? do antec protect you from this ?

i will go with a aio if i know its okay.

I don't know about their cover for other components, work researching though. I've not had a problem with leaks on my H100i, but I did have to send the first one back as the pump wouldn't run at the right speed leading to temps in the 60s.

If we have one leak I personally promise to come and visit you if yours leaks and I will replace all damaged components.

Trust me they WILL not leak but seriously if one does we will 100% replace any damaged components for you if it does.

:p

Using air on a 5820k here and it copes fine tbh. They're a much cooler running chip than standard haswell.

Good stuff man!

I have a 5820k on air, and its clocked to 4.5ghz. Get epic temps and no more than 45 on load with my heating on, 40 without.

What speed are you running the 5820k?

It's a 140W CPU at stock (like my SB-E), A 4.4-4.5GHz overclock would have it up at 200W no problem. The 4 core i7s are ~90W IIRC, so a 4.5GHz overclock would come in at around 130-140W I'd guess on a 6700k.

I know air coolers can cope with upto about 200W, but they tend to get a bit noisy at that point in my experience. (My last one was a Titan fenrir on a 4GHz i7 920 which was another 140W CPU at stock).
Then there's the dust issue. My radiator is much easier to clean than my old heatsink.

The hell you say?!

I had OCUK build me 5 x99 "overclocked" rigs, none could get above 3.9Ghz. and that's using Asus X99-S and MSI X99A Krait boards.
And ALL have failed their OC's and gone back to stock speeds.
The rigs are in constant use at work, so can't send them back for testing and re-setting up..

What setup you got to get 4.5 out of it?

edit: just noticed your sig. :)

4.5ghz on 1.300v. Max gaming temp of 64c, 11c less than my old 4.7ghz 4790k on the same voltage. Helps that the former chip has a soldered ihs. Same cooler used on both chips. Alpenfohn k2 with x2 pwm corsair sp 2350 rpm fans.
