Hey everyone,

Really hoping that someone who will have some advice for me in terms of what to do next. So basically my PC is been running absolutely fine since I put together around about this time last year give or take a month or two, until this morning when it decided to shutdown by itself.

It was early morning and I didn't think anything of it as I was getting ready to start the day (I have a few physical disabilities so I have to do a few things before I hop out of bed and onto the computer). When I eventually did get to my desk and powered up my PC I was greeted with a CPU overheat error and told to enter the BIOS.

So I pressed F1 to enter the BIOS and then was greeted by a black screen. I tried resetting, and once again greeted by a black screen not even post screen.

The error code on the motherboard is 00, I tried all the usual stuff like swapping out the GPU, taking out all the RAM and trying them in different slots all to no avail as the PC doesn't even Post anything. No display on the monitor.

Unfortunately my warranty for my CPU is out of date to be replaced by OCUK, but after getting in touch with Intel customer support they sent me an RMA number so the CPU will be going back and even the tech guy on the other end of the line was pretty convinced that it was a CPU problem.

However, I would like to know the opinion of you fine folks as to what the chances are that I also have a defective motherboard.

I guess my biggest fear is that if my motherboard is defective and causing problems? If Intel send me a new CPU, and then install it to my current motherboard could it possibly wreck the new CPU?

Any advice would be much appreciated, if you need any further information about setup please just ask.

Cool. When you power it on initially, press ESC to remove the BIOS splash screen. Does it recognise the CPU?

My display doesn't even initialise so there's no splash screen to even bypass. It doesn't even get to the point where the USB ports initialise so my keyboard in another USB peripherals aren't even active. They would usually initialise once my display shows signs of life.

Ok, seems like you've done all you can do. RMA the CPU which you've started anyway.

Where in London are you based? I work in London and have a spare i7 5930k if you need to borrow it until yours is sorted.

Had the same problem with my asus x-99-s, it just turned off one day after months of running fine, chip and board dead. turns out they had power issues with the board that is supposed to of been fixed in a later bios, the issue was under certain conditions too much power gets sent to the cpu and blows the cpu and motherboard

had no joy getting an rma off asus, luckily the rainforest sorted it, its really put me off asus stuff tbh, and It was my goto brand before

on an MSI board and a new cpu now, touch wood everythings been fine

Cpu or board dead or contact issue in the Cpu socket or short or not currently connected 8 pin cpu power.

Back online!!! I have to say, kudos to Intel for some very good warranty replacement! I called on the Thursday, received my RMA documents and DHL postage label on Friday, CPU was collected on Monday, and my replacement arrived on Wednesday!!

Rig is running 100% again, and the new chip is a keeper, running at the same 4.4ghz clock stable at much lower voltage.
