I have a new build on a Gigabyte Gaming 5P motherboard X99 Chipset

I need to get into the BIOS so I can change the CPU fan speeds to full...

Everytime I hit the DEL key before boot it goes to a black screen, Ive waited 10 mins but it hangs on a black screen

It boots into windows fine and all is ok for now

It may be a faulty mobo? I hear X99 are common for this issue

is there a fix or any other way i can go in the bios?

this is a nightmare, gigabyte x99 motherboards have a massive issue regarding black screens on bios, I disabled all usb dives and usb key board, attached a ps2 keyboard, still a no go, disabled all my sata drives apart from the SSD where the operating system is installed, now it wont boot up at all, complete black screen all the way, also unable to boot from cd drive so I cant re-install the operating system or repair windows, all I get is a black screen.

Ive only had this mobo for 3 days, and all I wanted to do is change a few fan settings ect

Im thinking I could do without the bios but if I need to get into it in future im bummed, I think im gonna return it for a Asus one.

I feel you. I've also seen reports of it now and it possibly being to do with NTFS file system drives (i.e. Windows). I formatted my SSD and when I build it again I will install windows from a USB drive.

If I get a lot of problems I may want to RMA it... it seems some boards have this issue some don't.

As an aside, where do I stand regarding RMA with OcUK? I bought the board and 5820k as a bundle at a very good price in early August. Could they replace the board with a working one?

well you get 14 days to return it with no reason and 30 days for immediate refund/replacement due to a a fault,to which this bios issue is a fault, your within ur 30 days, I suggest you rma it and get another mobo

ive already requested my rma authorisation

just to let you know ive updated the bios, easy way where you download the latest bios and save it on a usb stick, name the folder GIGABYTE.bin, insert the usb stick in the white usb port on the back of the pc and start the pc, it should auto detect the bios and update the bios and restart, crap didn't work for me, might do for you??

It's probably your graphic card compatibility, any chance you can test with a spare? Then flash to latest BIOS and try original graphic card again

Seen lots of issues until you flash to latest BIOS to better support GPU so it can display BIOS screens

I was unable to update the bios coz I have not installed the q flash mobo software, hence it does not work, the gpu is 100% working, I was using 60mins ago, im unable to boot into windows due to a black screen, even booting from cd drive loaded with my windows disc does not work, disconnected all hard drives 1 by 1, took the battery out to reset the cmos, no avail, I really have no other choice here, to certain that its mobo related...

Hello all,

Just to make you aware we have started to load new BIOS on our website to fix this issue.
Until all those new BIOS are live you can also use this link

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6WzjHBRvBLJSWU0VHc5S3BEMzQ&usp=sharing

your link does not work and I cant get into the bios just because I changed my PSU over to a new one, now I cant boot up or do anything

at least I and people know that they should NEVER buy a gigabyte board again, this black screen and unable to go to bios will always happen to me now if I ever reset cmos or install windows again!

Mate you need to read the post you are quoting more carefully. They said BIOS is on their website.

Plus it would help if you actually went through this thread you created and read it thoroughly like as you missed this.

ive been through the trouble shooting steps, doesnt work, the ONLY way I can get into the bios is when I have to disconnect all my mechanical hard drives and other bits ect

Its a pain but its a work around as my install is on a SSD, not sure why I even had to do this, and its not just me, this issue is a major X99 issue for ppl with mechanical HDs

Anyways my plan now is to get a Asus/MSI board and sell this off to someone else.
