OK some come on then chaps. Nice positive post here.

Post up what your predictions are for X99 Haswell E CPUs. Whoever gets closest wins a chewed toffee or something.

OK so I am basing my predictions on a 4.5ghz overclock here. One thing I don't know is how HE clock, so I'm going with what I see to be a pretty moderate clock.

Cinebench R15 Haswell E hex core =1375
Cinebench R15 Haswell E octa core = 1650

Firestrike CPU physics Haswell E hex core = 17500
Firestrike CPU physics Haswell E octa core = 20000

3Dmark 11 CPU Physics score Haswell E hex core = 14200
3Dmark 11 CPU physics score Haswell E octa core = 16000

So what do you think?

well, will it reach 4.5 and is it any better than what i have right now at 4.7

we dont know yet do we.... but i'd like it to be miles faster then i've got a good excuse to upgrade again

because if any one of these is a no then it's a waste of money, it's also a waste of money if it's only 4% faster.

i'd say that my rig feels either fast enough or too fast, but it deffo doesn't need a faster CPU or DDR4, the only thing i'm not 100% sure about is the 7990 !!!!

way too many are being RMAd

But will i be stupid and upgrade to DDR4 anyway, well it depends if i feel like blowing some more money i suppose !!!!

It (all three) in benchmarks at least will destroy what you have now. For gaming and general use? you'd need to be Superman on steroids and a dose of meth to notice. Gaming is terribly hard to predict, hence I've left that out.

What you're better off doing Mal is using your loaf and basically prowl the second hand market for a 3930k or better. Boards have been selling obscenely cheap of late. I've seen three or four X79 Gigas go for £60 or so

That's the downside to X99, board and ram prices. It's a shame Intel didn't make the new CPUs backward compatible with X79 boards (I'm reasonably certain they could have done that) and then given you a choice between stupid and insane :D Haswell runs with DDR3, we already know that.....

we tested the rig yesterday, if the CPU is only at 36 degrees whilst gaming then it's hardly being used..... or is it more complicated than this, because
I'd be way more interested in these new CPUs, if my current CPU was running at 70 degrees and 70% load, but it aint; it handles the games easily

so why do i need to upgrade ??????????????????

but, it is hard to say no because DDR 4 looks very sexy !!! :D:D

In 3DMark 11, I expect the 5960X to do much better than 16k. Most 3930k CPUs at 4.5GHz or so will do that and the Ivy-E overclocked specials do 17-18k+. I expect to see 20k + and nearer 25k.

That's bang on with my 1,400-1,800 prediction, as he runs at stock and 4.5GHZ.

The hardware canucks one is well behind though
Good foresight! I'll make sure to come to you before the next round of releases. ;)

Looks like a lot of guys (especially gamers) will be keeping their money in their pocket. I'm only tempted by the 5960X but still a little too rich for my blood.

Might be worth seeing that Xeons come out. Might be able to bag an 8core for a little less. Although OC'ing will suffer most likely.

no i'm pleased, because i've only recently brought the 4770, these new CPUs are no upgrade at all for a gamer......but Broadwell will be

Broad well is focusing on lower power/efficiency, not clock speed increases or much IPC improvements. Apparently the smaller process is proving difficult, so lower power and efficiency are not only the goals (for tablets and laptops etc) but they are a must to meet their target yeilds.
We might not see any huge increases (other than power efficiency), until after broadwell. (By that point AMD may be relatively competive again, but that's something for another topic)

Of course this is only what I've read/heard from Intel talking about the smaller process and broadwell.

Broadwell-E probably won't be that much better than the Haswell-E, perhaps we might see another 5-10 performance increase thought the
overclockability of the Broadwell is what interests me because it should do way better than Haswell-E in this case considering it is much
lower power and more efficient and is on a 14nm progress so it will run a lot cooler than Haswell-E.
