X99 Price

The RAM's on Overclockers.

The 5820 will be a pretty flipping good CPU, and it won't be 400. Probably ~300.

I bet you could get a hexcore Haswell-E set up for 700 quid all in.

It will be the best gaming cpu for any modern game which uses multiple cores (BF4, Crysis3, World of Warcraft, many more)

If there is a difference, which probably only be noticeable with benchmarks. The performance wouldn't be worth the high price tag compared to a 4770K or 4790K.

This.
And some games may actually take a hit
You would be basically paying for nothing more

But you can't put a price on epeen :-P

Im starting to think about this setup myself
Like most people say for gaming it will be overkill and not really made full advantage of

But.. the exact same was said about the Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem I purchased over 5 years ago
It still throws everything gaming has to offer at it relatively well

My thinking this may be the same, overkill now but longer lifespan?
Or do I save a little brass and upgraded a little sooner this time?

i'm in the same boat, by the time 4790k is useless i assume the 2011-3 socket wont be far off. Saying that ! it has more upgrade options. Decisions..........

Such an expensive month for me september.... new phone new pc. Rip Wallet.

When the 4 core 4790K is 'useless' the 6 and 8 core Haswell-E won't be half as useless, due to have 2 or 4 additional cores, higher memory bandwidth, larger cache.

Don't underestimate the cache update - the 4790k has the same 8MB of L3 cache that our 920's have. Haswell -E has between 15-20MB depending which version you go for. Many applications/games show decent performance increases with additional L3 cache.

of course there would be an increase.

people need to realise that cpus are not just clock speeds and cores. They are useless without the data...

more L3 cache means more data can be fetched quicker therefore the "clock and cores" can actually do their job...

less cache means that data is relied on RAM and is much much slower so you can have all the clock speed you want but it's not gona be faster than the RAM data fetch...

I hate Intel. X99 it is, wish they would stop messing around and get straight to 8 core.

Don't believe in future proof better last me 3 years though!.
