Hi all.

Specs are
5820k (oc to 4ghz)
Gigabyte x99 motherboard
16gig ram (3000 Cl 16)
Radeon Vega 56 (few months old)
Seasonic 850watt psu (few months old)

Pc crashed when gaming (csgo)
Instant shutdown and no vga.

Wouldn't post without reseting bios settings a few times.
Fails to load windows on the first few attempts, eventually boots but gives lots of errors (Side by side configuration incorrect)

So far I have installed a spare m2 drive, unplugged all my other drives and tried to reinstall windows from USB onto the empty m2
It will boot the USB but it crashes within a few seconds of white spot spinning.

I tried with one stick of ram in different slots /banks.
I tried my spare 970
Still the same problem.

Feels like the motherboard is broken :(
Out of warranty.

Is there anything else worth trying?

If not what's the best option to fix it?
Im perfectly happy with the performance of the 5820k
Main uses are lightroom and gaming.

New board, but what to buy?
There don't seem to be many options.

Or new cpu as well? If so what?
Keep the ram or buy new?

Thanks.

Hi

Is the psu a Seasonic Focus/Focus Plus by any chance ?

Also is the GTX 970 an Asus Strix ?

Reason I ask is those cards had issues with that psu that could cause black screens/shutdowns.

Yes it is a strix 970 but a focus gold..
Same fault using my Radeon Vega 56 so I doubt it's the gpu.

The system now reliability posts, but won't load windows (from USB) as it crashes.
I checked the voltage of the bios battery and it's OK. Also checked psu voltages for what it's worth, all in spec)

I did remove all overclock when I reset it after the initial crash.

There are no post codes on my board and no beeps.

Is ebay the best option for a replacement motherboard?
How irritating :(

I tested with my old corsair 550 psu and I have exactly the same fault.

New motherboard it is.

It will take me months to get enough posts for the MM.
EBay is very limited or dubious quality.
I have found somewhere selling new boards for £250 and I think that's the best option at the moment.

I'll try asking Gigabyte about rma/repair.

A new x99 board looks like it's going to be £250.
I can't be bothered with ebay crap shoot and would like to be running again asap.

Im considering buying this instead.

And this
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-3b9-am.html

That's £300 for ryzen 3600 and a b450 motherboard.

Sell my 5820k for £50+ and it's the same price but "new"

Is this sensible move?
Is there a better buy available?

Its a Gaming 5P
Bought in a black Friday deal quite a few years ago now.

I bought the B450 board and 3600 CPU.
Now back up and running, maybe slightly faster than before, but I still need to tweak the ram.
I cant really afford the down time, and if I can fix the 5820k I will have enough bits to build a second rig thats pretty decent, or just sell and recoup some of my cash.

Also bought a PC011 XL to put it in, but it looks a bit empty at the moment without watercooling fitted but i'm not rushing that bit :)

It's possible but X99 is a little old now so we may be lacking in the parts needed to repair it... Let me know if you want it looked at and I'll see if I can help... No promises though..

Thanks for the kind offer.
I will send you a trust :)

Thanks for all the help.
