Hi all,

Been looking to upgrade to x99 in the future and just had a few questions to ask and request some recommendations really.

First off, here's my spec:

|| Intel 4670K @ 4GHz || Corsair H80i || 2x MSI NVIDIA GTX 770 2GB (2 way SLI) || MSI Z87-G45 ||
|| TeamGroup Elite Black 16GB (CAS 11-11-11-28 Timings) || Samsung 840 (250GB) SSD ||
|| Seagate Barracuda 2TB (7200 RPM) ||
|| SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 750W || BitFenix Shinobi (German Edition) ||
I'm looking to get a new CPU, Mobo + RAM (obviously). I do a lot of content creation (mostly After Effects) so this upgrade would benefit me a lot from that point of view. In terms of gaming, I can run pretty much all of the games I want in high/ ultra settings with 60+ FPS (depending on the game).

For the CPU, I was looking at the 5820K rather than the 5930K. Can anyone justify as to why I might need the 5930K instead? If not, I think I'll stick with this.

RAM on the other hand, I don't really know what to choose. Looking for a 16GB kit, not really fussed about dual channel or quad channel. I guess that depends on the motherboard used? Was looking at the Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit in red. Is that a good choice in your opinion or would you rather suggest something else?

Motherboard - don't really know what to go for. My current rig has a red/black theme with custom braided cables which are also red/black. Would like to see some recommendations on a similar colour schemed motherboard. Also, is there a huge difference between x99A and x99E/ x99-Deluxe? :confused:

Also, will I need to factor in another PSU for this upgrade or will my 750W suffice? Was looking into getting a GPU upgrade in the future as well, to maybe a 980ti or an SLI 970 at least. Thinking of staying with my H80i as it supports the 2011 socket. Will most likely upgrade to a H100i or H100i GTX when I get a new case. This won't affect my power usage, will it?

EDIT: I don't really have a set budget, would like to see what I can get for around the £600 mark maybe? Might be able to get away with a bigger budget if I sell my current CPU/RAM/Motherboard.

Thanks!

Hi,

The 5930K has more PCI-E lanes than the 5820K, so multi card GFX support, other add-in cards (sound cards, raid devices, PCI-E based SSDs) are easier to setup and manage.

RAM - Anything that fits really, unless you are benching its not going to make a huge difference, 2666Mhz is common.

Board - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-515-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2875 - black+red, great onboard sound, great warranty and support.

PSU - its a good 750W and its fine for a single GFX card setup, I tend to spec 1KW PSU with X99 and 2way GFX card setups. Swapping cooler will have little effect on power consumption.

5930K is a RIP OFF if you only run 2 Graphics Cards and a PCIe SSD. If you're running 3 or more cards, then the 5930K is worth the extra £150.

Just the more the better, I don't think speed and timings really makes that much difference. The adobe premiere pro hardware forum often has threads about after affects, might be worth having a butchers at that.

If you're using Premiere and AE then more ram and a better HDD setup is your bet bet. You should be looking at a minimum of 4-5 drives for a good rendering setup.
