X99 Upgrade Spec Check

I am looking to upgrade to X99 as I am having some issue with my current rig which seem to be motherboard related.

Will this all work fine together and will I need to do anything special to get the RAM running at 3000 Mhz.

I will carry over the Be Quiet Dark Power 650w PSU and GTX 970 from my current rig. If anyone has any suggestions for alternative components please include in the replies below.

The main uses will be Gaming, development, running VM's. I am hoping that this new rig will last me a few years.

What is your current case? Reason I'm asking is for cooler clearance, that cooler is not small

Will you be using more than 2 graphics cards ever or many expansion cards? The 5930k holds a premium over the 5820k for the number of PCIE lanes it can hold, but the 5820k is very similar in performance for a lower price

Also, there are some nice RAM/Motherboard/CPU bundles such as the M|SI X99 SLI Plus, 16GB TeamGroup and a 5820k/5930k/5960X


Have you thought about just buying a used Z77 board? Would be considerably cheaper and the 2600k you still have is a solid chip, and then you could wait out for Skylake(-E) which may be faster and more to your liking

That is under consideration as well. It is just that I was watching a review of the 5820k on youtube last night and he said that he was not able to run memory above 2800 mhz with the 5820.

You could go with a bundle that'll save you money, except they come with the Asus X99-S motherboard instead. Only notable difference I can see is it only comes with 1 M.2 slot as opposed to 2 on the X99-Pro.

i havent seen any meaningful feedback on average max overclock attained between the two..£130 more sounds like 5820K would be better value...
What would the pro give you over the s....could save something there perhaps..

Perhaps I will drop down to the 5820 as I won't need the additional PCIE lanes as I won't be doing SLI. But will have my Xonar DX, GTX 970 and the m.2 NVME drive.

I don't know about that. I doubt you would notice any difference between 2800 and 3000 Ram in normal usage anyway.

Do you have access to the MM? A P67, Z68 or Z77 mobo would save you a hell of a lot of money.
