I currently find myself at an awkward position where I need a new motherboard and cpu.

Due to a recent 980ti upgrade (which my current motherboard is not compatible with) I am currently using a Frankenstein machine (with no case) as my primary development / gaming machine.

I had to remove parts from my server to get it working as well which is why this puts me in a weak spot. The server is currently our main code repository so it was kinda important before I butchered it :)

I have £1300 or extra parts stacked in the cart but I am having trouble pulling the trigger. x99/5820k looks like a sweet upgrade to my old 2200k but can't help but wonder if skylake is worth the wait.

I use 2x 1440 monitors (if that helps)

I know I can wait even though manual file copies is pretty annoying but I am not sure if I have the will power to hold off just buying now.

Can you see how deep of a problem this is for me? ;)

lol
you thoughts?

I would say go with Skylake, more IPC performance, better value, newer platform and chipset unless the software you use is highly threaded and can use the extra cores then go with X99 Haswell.

When you say development what kind of development are you doing? Are you using any Virtual machines?

x99 will probably win out for most tasks but sky lake is looking pretty good.

M.2 performance is good Features are nice and tbh theirs some nice looking boards.

if you can wait, you should untill first benchs and tests come. Then you will have all the info you need to see what fits into your expectations, maybe by mid august you will have all clear.

Just be patient.
