X99 weird boot issue

Hi everyone,

So I've got a weird issue with my system that I simply cannot work out why.

To put it short, occasionally upon boot (both hot & cold boot) the system will POST but get stuck at the UEFI logo screen (so the EVGA X99 Micro 2 logo screen in my case) but it would not boot into W10. But if I then press the restart button it will boot straight into W10 with rock solid stability.

Tried updating BIOS, clearing CMOS, removing OC but issue still persist.

Although it doesn't affect the stability, I'm curious whether there's a simple fix for this, OCD is a b****h :D

Relevant spec:
EVGA X99 Micro 2
5820K @4.5/1.275V
Corsair dominator platinum DDR4 2400
EVGA 980Ti SC+
Samsung 950 PRO (boot drive)
Samsung 850 PRO (Storage)
Seasonic Snow Silent 1050W

Thanks in advance for any input :)

You can read the 8PACK 2nd bundle thread for a few clues to why the X99 + DDR4 can have cold boot issues but it seems to come down to some BIOS shenanigans that happen everytime you cold boot the system. Several peeps have had to RMA their bundles to get a working system.

My x99 + 5820 system is 9 times out of 10 totally stable but very occasionally it does similar to what you describe. It's not been enough of a problem to bother tracking it down but also if I plug certain devices in to certain USB 3.0 ports that also triggers a hung boot. The logitech G29 steering + pedals being a good example which I now only ower on when windows has booted.

If you had ECC on, this would definitely cause lockups as the memory controller is looking a parity chip and cannot find it. Do not enable this setting unless you are using ECC unbuffered DIMM modules
check this please

Ive a similar sort of problem with my system.

But ive also got lots of others too.

I'm just about to pull my loop apart to try and start fixing the issues if I can.

My x99 system takes an age to boot easily over a minute using a ssd.
I can have random hangs when I load windows, or like you it gets stuck at the bios splashscreen.

On another random point 4 times out of five the system will power down just fine, the fifth time the system re boots!!

Any ideas chaps??

Apprantly USB devices can cause just as many issues and setting the xHCI mode from Smart Auto to Auto and in my system disabling "Legacy USB devices" has helped me boot with certain devices plugged in.

Before I was either leaving them unplugged or only certain ports would work.
