Xampp question, change root username

Is there a way to change the username from "root" to something of my choice?

Create your own mySQL username with full access privledges, then you can use whatever username and password you wish. Think the root account still has to exist but make sure you password it.

Ok cool, that's worked. One last thing, do you know how I change the error reporting level in PHP?

using php.ini or you can set it on a per script basis
