XB360 Component & VGA comparisons

Hi,

I have an XBOX360 running a 32" Samsung HDTV via component. I've been reading around about the supposed benefits of VGA, one being the ability of the XB to upscale DVDs through VGA.

I'm willing to do the 'component cable hack' so that I have VGA but does anyone here have any experience on differences between comp and VGA and if they're that noticable?

I like component much better myself....

But each tv is going be different..plus everyones taste is going be different..
 
I'm with chaparral on this,

I think the biggest difference is going to be your TV, and how they handle each input.

On my brothers old Tosh47WLT66 the component looked pants, very soft and muted.. VGA looked much better..

He's now replaced the Tosh with the same Sharp as mine (46XD1E), and the component is super crisp, as is the VGA, but it seems to process the component better as there is slight tearing over VGA..
 
I've prefered component on the 3 HD sets i've had over the last year - colours more vibrant, greater contrast, and more depth to the image.
 
Im using a Dell 2405fpw, component is a lot sharper and the colors seemed more defined....... but after playing around in the factory menu i have found the VGA colors similiar but the picture somewhat softer in which i now prefer. The option of 1080p and dvd upscaling is also a good addition as 1080p is perfect for the HD Add on :D
 
I shall not bother with the VGA option then plus it saves that socket for my PC.

I have the Samsung 32" and tried them both back to back. I found the component was much more vivd, but the graphics were more jaggy. The VGA was a bit washed out (nothing a tweak in the settings couldnt fix) but the picture was a lot sharper and smoother. I went with the VGA.

The VGA cable will work with any monitor as long as it supports at least 640x480.

Technically VGA is better than component (although not by much) and the only benefit on paper is the ability to upscale DVD through VGA on the 360. I was asking for real-world opinions on any differences between the two and it looks like it may be worth investing in a VGA cable.. Or I may just hack my component one.

I assume you mean component?
 
Component is is probably best for a truer picture, VGA is more likely to be optimised for desktop usage brightness/contrast wise.
 
How do you hack the component to provide and upscaled image with SD DVD's? I'm getting a LCD TV like most and I want to use the VGA for my pc input, but I want to enjoy the upscaled DVD function of the 360.
