Everytime I look at XBMC, I like it, but then I download it, and it continues to remind me why it's pretty cack.

I have applied the Quartz theme (skin) but there is no option to change the background of the start screen, something that even the default skin (Confluence) has, except that that skin is shocking.

I can't seem to find any decent examples on Google about what file to alter or config to change.....

Any ideas?

if you ask in the forum there may be a few answers, 12.2 seems to have a lot more skins and a little more control

Checked but there seems nothing short of general rudeness, especially on some of the sub skin forums.

I think I will hack apart the files myself to see what I can find :)

Use Aeon Nox skin, I've not changed the background on mine, but I imagine it's a simple text entry in an XML file.

Look in %appdata%\xmbc (I think this is the folder)

If the skin maker hasn't given you a way to change it from the front-end, then you've got a couple of options.

Either, it'll be as an image in the skin folder (usually in %appdata%\XBMC\addons) ie skin.quartz, or it'll be in a textures file (a .xbt file), which will need to be unpacked.

think the quartz theme is a recreation of apple tv iirc, so doubt that you'll be able to alter it much, Aeon MQ3,4 , Aeon Nox and Amber are all far more configurable.

Ok I'm in. Weirdly there is a backgrounds folder in here already with some nice images....

Doesn't look like you can unpack .xbt files

Still can't find the name of the default quartz background (the one that has the XBMC logo on it)...Will have to have a dig around. It's not in the xbt file
