I'll post this over on the xbmc forums but theres a lot of knowledgeable people here so worth a shot..

I've been running XBMC flawlessly on my server (Intel Quad [email protected], 4GB Ram) for ages now - no issues whatsoever streaming any time of HD quality stuff. I recently obtained an Optiplex 780 with the following spec as I wanted to move it to a media pc near the television, with an mce remote:

  • I5 2400
  • 8GB 1333mhz ddr3
  • intel ssd
  • amd 5750 passive*
  • Windows 8

*The graphics card I know is more than upto the job because its been in my server for the last 2 years running without issue. Now I'm getting stuttering and performance issues all the time. My network is all gigabit, connected by cat 6 cabling, and running through decent HP switching equipment - I've also done some throughput testing and it doesn't seem to be a network issue, so is the above spec really not up to the job?

The kit ids more than up to it. I'm suspecting driver conflict or some win8 wierdness. Does wmp-hc play them back ok over the network?

Certainly something odd. How do they play from the local HDD? Does MPHC indicate they are dxva compliant when playing them? Are you outputting straight to the TV or to an av receiver (i.e. is tehe pc decoding the audio too?) I still cant see that being an issue with a i5

Do you have a usb stick you coudl install openelec on and try via that. You would confirm the hardware is not an issue that way

When i first start XBMC i need to change the resolution in it's settings away from and back to 1080p otherwise it stutters. That's connected to a TV as a second screen through HDMI though so it probably won't fix your issue but might be worth a try.

Openelec almost worked straight out of the box (and is damned nice I have to say) but I can't get the damned audio over HDMI working..

I've tried both devices without luck, any ideas?

I get the menu clicks from the htpc itself; and just "Audio device not configured" when trying to play back .
