Sorry if this is in the wrong sub forum - it could fit in a couple but ive seen XBMC spoken about here so thought id post my question here first!

Ive just started playing about with this and ive been impressed so far however ive come across the following problem.

I have my media stored on an external hard disk and have pointed XBMC at the relevant folders for Films, Music and TV Shows. Ive added about 100 movies for starters and had no problems, it picks them all up with the art etc. Same for the music. On the face of it it does the same for the tv shows but it actually doesnt. Ive added about 10 different titles each with their own series in seperate folders. It picks up the fact that the title folders exists because it pulls down the fan art and info for ALL of them. However it only shows the actual shows for 4 or 5. The rest are blank when you click into them. So for example it will show "The Sopranos" and "Father Ted" on the title page with the pics and themes but will only display the series and episodes for The Sopranos, while Father Ted will display a blank with just the ".." at the top.

As far as i can tell i had them all saved in the same way as AVI files and they all play perfectly if i seek them out maually through the computer. I have them ordered in the same way too (or at least i think i do!). Media - TV series - Show Title - Series- Episodes (So for The Sopranos it would be stored in Media - TV Shows - The Sporanos - Series One - Episode One etc) yet only some of them will play.

Im a bit of a newbie to all this so it could very well be something really obvious but its nothing that springs out at me. Can anyone help me out?

Try season 1 instead of series.. And also make sure your files are named like this

The.sopranos.s01e01 and so on :)

If you do want to rename them to a more XBMC friendly format (as above) then TV Rename is pretty excellent, it can parse episodes from a load of existing name formats (or you can define your own) and re-tag them in another format with episode titles etc scraped from online.

Alternatively you can use something like Media Companion or Ember Media Manager to generate the nfo files, download the fanart/images and rename the episodes in a format that XBMC will then use so it doesn't have to search for these things online.
