Ive just set up XBMC on my PC tonight and for the most part I can work things out.

However for some reason my TV shows are going a bit weird. I navigate to my South Park folder and all my seasons are in there... all fine..

Then my Family Guy folder which has 8 seasons in only displays 2 episodes from 2 seperate Seasons.

The Walking Dead only displays Season 2. However when I view files in a Folder mode I can see them all .

Why would it not show some files?

Set up like this?

South Park
|
Season 1 -> Episode 1, 2, 3
Season 2 -> Episode 1, 2, 3

I bet you haven't named them correctly. Ensure you have S01E01 naming on all files. All you need to do is make sure there is a Family Guy folder, then have all the videos inside that folder with S01E01 naming scheme.

Ah it seems thats the problem. they are named with the episode names.

Do I have to manually change each name to a S01E01 scheme? ouch

I just changed Family guy names. They are all in a family guy folder, split into sub directories of season 1, season 2 etc.

I just changed first series names to "S01E01" etc and now XMBC has decided they are Formula1 1971 review or something :(

See I don't like using the inbuilt xbmc scraper. I use Sickbeard for all of that. Have a look for it.

But yes you have to have S01E01 on all episodes.

Ok thanks Ill have a mess about. Takes a while to get this all set up nicely. Completely new to me really.

It does take a while to set it all up i agree but well worth it in the end when its all looking cool.

Weirdly, my Family Guy folders don't have the S01E01 format yet XBMC has posted them all up?? They're all identified by the series name. Maybe I'm using a custom scraper... I'll have to have a look.

It doesn't have to be the S01E01 format, XBMC can understand a number of different file name types

I've done that with mediascout; you've selected the wrong path and it thinks the programme is called "season 1" which gets matched to F1 :o

You need to set the path one step back, to the folder the family guy folder is in... if that makes sense.

I tried the renamer...

My files are like "Family Guy Season 4"...

then inside its like "01- North by north Quohog"

then I drag them into the renamer and it does nothing with them.

If it changed it into the S04E04 format my XMBC would find it easy. Doesnt seem to serve much purpose for me .hmm.

I use filebot for renaming and it's brilliant. Have a look, you'll have all your files renamed in minutes.

The best way to name files is like this:
Folder: Family Guy (Series)
Inside that, a folder for each season (Season 1, Season 2, etc)
Inside that each episode named like this:
Family guy - so1e01 - (anything here).avi
Family guy - 2x03 - (anything here).avi

When scraping, XBMC uses the folders, but also needs the series name to be in the file name. It looks for series name, then season + episode number. Everything after that is redundant.

There are a number of tools you can use to rename files, but they all depend in having a top folder named just for the series:
"Family Guy"
not
"Family guy Season 4"

Hedge,

Download this program
http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/

Create a numbered list of files using custom text.
Custom text should be S0x.E0 (keep changing the x for whatever season number)

Family Guy/Season 4/S04.E01
S04.E02

So on and so on, then just drag it to TheRenamer and it should pick up the names perfectly.

If for example it is picking up a random show, head over to www.thetvdb.com and search the site for which show you want.

http://thetvdb.com/?string=family+guy&searchseriesid=&tab=listseries&function=Search
If you see the numbers next to the language, you can use that to manually select a show.

It's all very confusing at first, but it's easy after you've done it a few times

Also, if you have a show name which has the same name as before, e.g. Archer make sure you copy the same sort of text from theTVdb.
The cartoon Archer that came out recently is called Archer (2009) the other Archer is from the 70s or something
