I've been searching the net as I can't get sound from my Xonar D1 in XMBC. I did 'once' get it working but it sounded very bizarre and electronic, but on next boot.. it was gone. It was replaced with an error method "Failed to initialse sound device" or similar.
I tried the live CD and does also does not work on that, but weirdly if I set to Xonar D1 and something like IEC598 there is no sound, but no error message.
Using XBMCUbuntu "Eden".. by itself. I have turned off onboard sound. I however have an Nvidia GT 210 that has it's own HD sound that I suspect is causing issues.
I have tried sudo get-apt update (I think that was it), and looked at aplay -l. When using the live CD and aplay I had around 7 devices for sound, but only 3 when looking at the HDD installed version.
So please help. I don't quite understand where I'm supposed to put these hwplug: x:x stuff to choose a custom audio out, but honestly, I don't see why I have to do that when I already have the Xonar D1 clearly listed in the audio list.
