hi, media centre is being a pain so am thinking of using XBMC. is there a skin that will let me sort my movies by genre and also give a synopsis of the film and not just the poster pic when highlited?

Just make sure the file name is understandable for the scraper. Nearly all themes let you change the layout of your library too, the one you want is called "media info" i think.

Can't remember the one I use, I'll tell you when I get home if you haven't got it sorted by then...

edit: I actually think I may be using Confluence but on the new Eden release.

still no joy :( on another note, pluggins/addons. are these dependent on what version (windows/mac/linux/live) or can I just google them and download any?

Most addons are global, so its normally as easy as adding them to the addons folder.

as far as media info goes:

when you have you films up use left on the keyboard to bring up the options for movies. Scroll up to "view" and press enter untill you get media info or media info 2.

how do I find out?

Scroll to "System" and go into "System Info".
It will show you the build number and compile date

ok, I might be being dumb (im running xbmc in windows) but I don't have a system info bit :(

I have in my view options - list, big list, thumbnail, wide icons

system info should be here:
sysinfo.png

in your movies list it should look like:
mediainfo.png

ok found the system info (had to change skin) :
XBMC 11.0 (compiled : Mar 21 2012)

I have iplayer and itv player working but 4OD and Demand 5 give script errors when I select them

I get where the media info is meant to be, but I only get those I listed, no media info option.

There had been a fix made for those, but its not in a release form yet.
Am on my phone atm so will post details when I get home.

Did the scraper download info when you added the movies?

Ouch, unlucky man. was it the dreaded "refresh all items in this source" update?
I've been hit by that several times.
I'm not sure if you can back up the metadata so you can copy it back over the top or not. might be worth a search.
