ok, so this is probably just me being a numpty but its really annoying me now.

i have all my video and music files on my windows 8 desktop and have xbmcbuntu setup with SMB share. first off, it wont accept my login for the windows 8 machine (i assume its my @hotmail.co.uk username and password i use to log into windows 8) so i just set the files to be shared by everyone. this works and the files all scan in fine and play flawlessly.....that is until i restart my windows 8 machine and then the folders are no longer shared for everyone, just the user (being a live account) and the homegroup. any ideas?

You would need to set up a 2nd local account on the pc (called xbmc or something) with a password. Then use this as the log in for the shares. Make sure the shares are accessible to the XBMC user.

The @hotmail.co.uk log in is a windows live login and is not a local account on the machine.

thanks that seems to of sorted it.
just need to sort out a stable way of sharing the library now.
