Well it had a cherished existence if I'm honest - all those times in the last 3 years I saw posts about failed 360's and thought 'not mine its well ventilated and little used'...so it had to happen the day before my Live! subs ran out and just before christmas didn't it?? :(

Anyway yeh my 360 has dided and it's nearly 3 years old and not suffering the whole RROD thing just this one light and the E73 error. What I want to know is has anyone had any success fixing said error themselves? Does the x-clamp replacement even have any bearing on this error type since it seems to relate to I/O errors and specifically the ethernet port? Oh and while I'm at it...why the hell couldn't MS have made it so that such an error was reported but didn't cause the whole console to become a brick?!

Looks like a new slim...

Mines died a couple of weeks ago, e74 error. Stripped it back and replaced the x clamps, it worked for all of two minutes before it died. New slim arriving tomorrow :) Complete pain in the butt though.

All I can say is that the X-Clamp replacement wouldn't help you.

Time for a new one. Put the dead one up for sale for spares or something.

had the E73 error myself and i took it to a local repair shop in dundee (lived in arbroath at the time) and it worked for approx 3-4 months then it needed a "top-up" and since then its been fine.
Still i bought a new slim as mates had said it was dead quiet plus i only had a 20gb premium so i wanted the extra harddrive space.

that said as above, its under 3 year warranty by microsoft

weirdly i have had lights on my xbox numerous times, i have counted no less than six...no make that seven RROD on my xbox in the past six months, weird thing is after i switch it off and back on, the RROD has disappeared and all is fine, regardless of how long i play on it (marathon sessions of GOWII for example, or halo: reach), thought the RROD meant your console was borked, if so how is mine still alive after having seven! should i be concerned or is it indestructable? :D

Cheers for the replies guys..I definitely would have sent it back to MS if I hadn't already opened the bleeding thing up! I went on the xbox site and did a warranty check and it said expired 2009 so I thought that was that and the 3 yr thing was only applicable to E74 full RROD errors. Major pain in the ass now I know that's not the case and it might still have been covered. I take it there is no chance of getting it through warranty now the case has been opened??
