Xbox 360 and old games

I'm getting a premium Xbox 360 tomorrow, finally they got one in stock after selling one i was supposed to be getting.

Thing is, i want to play halo 2 on live and talk with a friend on it. Halo 2 will work? But the thing i'm not sure about is live, do i need to purchase the old Xbox live aswell as the ones for the new games?

If that seems a bit crap gonna burn a hole in my pocket

No, one Live subscription is all you need. Works fine for old and new games.

Ok good, and damn i missed out on that halo2 with live for £20

Anyone suggest where i can get halo2/live cheap?

so does that mean that if you have an xbox and then you move to the 360 you keep your Live sub? just for clarification.

im a total xbox 360 newb.... i have a xbox, and you can play old games on the 360??? :eek:

Yes, you can just log into your Live account on the 360 by retrieving your old details.

Yes, not all games, but a fair few.

Hope you don't mind me asking a few questions as well, im considering buying but im not sure if its worth it yet, im not really in any rush so can wait for ages if need be.

Do the old xbox games run in say 720p even if they're only 480p?

Do most games make use of AA and other graphics improvements?

Do they perform better?

Is it worth buying to make use of HD mainly for old games atm?

Can you give me some idea of what to expect from older games and whats your opinions of them on the 360?

^ I'm not sure about some of those questions but someone else here should do.. I do know that some games perform worse on the 360 as backward compatibility isn't perfect.

I did some reading on another forum and found out most of my questions, still it would be nice to get some idea of what its all like as i was considering just doing an xbox softmod for HD, one i've put off for absolutely ages now, seems like it might be troublesome, what should i do?

It's either xbox softmod which would loose some res but be shaper at 480p or go 360 and get 720p in all or most games and have AA as well, i just hate these type of choices.

Also forgot theres the issue of transferring saves, maps etc, im not sure if thats possible yet?

yes it is as long as you dont use the vga cable i had to use an old portable tv to do the transfers of maps etc
